Description
A hardy grass which growns mainly in Indonesian and Asian countries. Formerly known as Andropogon nardus the plant grows to about 3ft with long slender leaves.

Extraction Method
The oil is steam distilled from the dried grass. Steam distillation of the fresh grass uses large amounts of energy and yields a lower quality oil, so dried grass is the prefered method.

Note: Citronella Grass grows to 2 m and has red base stems.  Besides Aromatherapy Citronella oil is used in soaps, as a mosquito repellent in insect sprays and candles. The principal chemical constituents of citronella, geraniol and citronellol, are antiseptics, hence their use in household disinfectants and soaps.Citronella grass is also used for culinary purposes, in tea and as a flavoring.
